Tucked inside Ikebukuro's Sunshine City, this is Bandai's flagship capsule-toy hall, and it lives up to the hype. Several thousand gachapon machines line the walls in glittering rows, and the sound of turning handles and dropping capsules is constant. It is the kind of place where you plan to spend ten minutes and somehow leave forty minutes (and a pocketful of coins) later, with a tiny vinyl mascot you did not know existed when you walked in.

What to see

The draw here is sheer scale. Machines are loosely grouped by theme, so you will find anime tie-ins, food miniatures, animal figures, oddball novelty items, and seasonal exclusives all within a few steps of each other. Rotation is frequent, so even repeat visitors find something new. Bring a stash of 100 and 500 yen coins, though change machines are usually on hand. Half the fun is simply browsing the absurd variety on offer.

Who it's best for

With an otaku level of 1-10/10, this spot welcomes complete newcomers and seasoned collectors alike. It is ideal for gacha lovers chasing a specific series and for families, since kids enjoy the surprise factor as much as adults do. There is really no one who should avoid it, though anyone who dislikes crowds may prefer a weekday visit.

Practical tips

Why it earns its spot in a trip plan

It is a low-cost, high-delight stop that suits any traveler, pairs naturally with the rest of Sunshine City, and gives you genuinely Japanese souvenirs for spare change. Confirm current hours and access on the official Sunshine City or Bandai sources before you go, as details can change.
