Comitia is the warm, creative home of original doujin culture in Japan. Unlike events full of fan parody, every work here is wholly original, making it a treasure trove of indie comics, illustration books, and zines straight from their creators' hands. It's less of a frenzied rush and more of a friendly marketplace where you can chat with artists, discover new talent, and feel the grassroots energy of Japan's independent creative scene.

What it is

Comitia is an original-works doujin fair: only fully original manga, art, and writing are allowed, with no fan parody of existing series. Beloved by indie creators and by editors scouting for new talent, it's a large, respected event that has nurtured many professional careers. The vibe is creative, personal, and welcoming.

When & where

Comitia is held about four times a year, year-round, including editions around February, May, August, and November, at Tokyo Big Sight in Ariake, Tokyo. Specific dates and hall assignments change every time, so always confirm on the official site (https://www.comitia.co.jp/) before you go.
