Comiket is the legendary heart of Japan's doujin culture, a twice-yearly pilgrimage that draws hundreds of thousands of fans to Tokyo Big Sight. For overseas anime, manga, and game lovers, it's the single most jaw-dropping fan event on the planet: floor after floor of self-published works, an electric buzz of creativity, and one of the most famous cosplay areas in the world. It's hot, it's crowded, and it's unforgettable.

What it is

Comic Market, or Comiket, is the world's largest doujinshi (self-published works) fair. Tens of thousands of "circles" (creators and groups) sell original and fan-made manga, art books, music, games, and goods. Running since the 1970s, it has grown into a defining pillar of otaku culture, on a genuinely enormous scale with attendance in the hundreds of thousands per day.

When & where

Comiket happens twice a year, in mid-August (Summer Comiket) and late December (Winter Comiket), at Tokyo Big Sight in Ariake, Tokyo. Exact dates, hall layouts, and rules change every single edition, so always confirm on the official site (https://www.comiket.co.jp/) before you plan travel.
